How to Delete Instagram Messages from Both Sides at Once

We have been using Instagram for quite some time now. However, using social media apps at times land us in situations we do not for ourselves to land in. Many times a situation in which we land ourselves is embarrassing. One such situation is sending a wrong message to someone which was not originally intended. This can happen in various ways. Many times we intend to send a post to one of our close friends / acquaintances however we end up sending it to the wrong people. Such a situation leads us to wonder whether or not a message can be removed or deleted from Instagram or not.

How to remove Instagram’s message from both ends:

In order to remove a message from both sides, simply press and hold a message for a second or two. Once you do this, a popup menu will appear. Once it appears, click on the ‘unsend’ button from the pop up menu. When you unsend a message from, it will be deleted from both sides. In simpler words, once you click on unsend, neither you nor the sender will be able to see the message which was previously sent.

Following is a step by step guide on how to delete an Instagram message from both sides at the same time. 

• Open the Instagram app on your cellular device. If you are a PC user, you can login to the application via a web portal. 
• Once you have opened the app,  Simply click on the aero plane icon on the top right corner of the screen. 
• Once you have clicked, you will see a list of messages. 
• Click on the I’d whose chat you want to delete. 
• Once you have opened the chat, click on the message you want to  unsend.

Please do note that the u send option works only when you are the sender. Deleting the other person’s message is nothing but wishful thinking. 

You Cannot Delete Other Person’s Message

If you wish to delete the other person’s message, you can try by right clicking the message you wish to delete. But it is important to note that it will only delete the message from your end. You won’t be able to delete the message from the recipient’s end.

Unsend Instagram Message

One might wonder as to what would happen if a user un sends a message. If you unsend a message before the other person sees it, both the message and the notification of the message will be deleted. In simpler terms, let’s assume that you sent a message to someone by mistake. The only option you are left with is to unsend the message timely. If the other person has already read it, then there is really nothing much you can do about it.

However, if the other person has not read it, you can simply unsend the message by following the aforementioned tips. This way, both the message and the notification sent to the concerned person will be deleted. The notification is sent in two conditions. If a person is using a mobile application, he will get a notification once you send him a message. He will also be notified if the message is unsent. Having said that, the message which was originally sent will not be displayed. Also, the receiving of notification is also contingent on a user’s phone settings. For instance, if an individual has blocked the notifications from phone settings, then he will not receive any kind of notification from the app, be it a message notification or a general notification from the app. Having said that, they won’t be able to notice any message if they are not using the app at the time the message was sent. That being said, this is only limited to the ones who have turned their notifications off from the settings.

Deleting the App

Another misconception which people have is that they think deleting the app straight away will delete the messages. However, this is untrue. Deleting the app will not get the messages deleted. The only way you can delete a message is by unsending it by following the aforementioned procedure. Also one has to keep in mind that unlike snapchat, where a message gets deleted once viewed, Instagram direct messages last forever. However, you can customize it by keeping the settings of the direct messages at view once only.
