Our trek to the Lobuche summit

Climbing Up to the Summit of Mount Lobuche Peak:

Ok, now that we have trekked to Lobuche Peak basecamp, lets take a look at our summit plans. First of all, please note, in option number 4 above: “The Everest View Glacier School” listed in the “Four ways we climb Lobuche Peak”, we are going to offer more climbing instruction and practice opportunities, by offering rock climbing instruction training at Lobuche Peak basecamp, as well as an extra day of ice axe, crampon, rope, ice climbing training on the scenic Cho La Pass Glacier at 5420 m / 17,777 ft.. Now, lets progress on to how we climb Lobuche Peak:

1) On the way to Lobuche high camp lake:

Walk up grassy trails along steep ridges to Lobuche High Camp at 5400 m / 17,700 ft. By the way, Sherpas will carry your heavy items, so your rucksack will not be heavy during the climb. This is a very beautiful walk on the famous grassy rocky slopes up to the rocky sandy beach on the shores of Lobuche High Camp Lake. Some teams will place their high camp down at the lake, and some will put their tents a bit higher, on the large rock plateau above the lake.

2) Heading towards summit:

Wake up early at midnight and eat “breakfast” and lots of hot drinks, fill water bottles, and head for the summit. At first the climbing follows rock slabs. Then you will be clipping the fixed lines, traversing snow slopes, and eventually you will be fully climbing well fixed ropes up the Lobuche glacier, which has a few small crevasses, but is basically more of a steep snow field. Finally, you will gain the ultimate long ridge which brings you via strong ropes to the upper slopes of Lobuche East. Occasionally a team will have fixed ropes along the corniced ridge to Lobuche Upper Peak, but generally, 95% of all teams stop at Lobuche East Peak at 6119 m / 20,075 ft. At this point, you can see incredible views of the entire Khumbu Valley, including Everest, Ama Dablam, Makalu, and so many more amazing peaks. Now Its Time For The Descent. You will carefully descend the ropes back down to high camp and the lake. After a bit of a rest and hot drinks/soup/lunch you will choose your descent. Will you go back down to Lobuche Peak Base Camp and return to Dugla Teahouses, or will you head down the direct route from High Camp to  Lobuche Village, and perhaps carry on to Everest Base Camp. Lets assume you will descend to Lobuche basecamp.

Trekking Back Down To Lukla and Flying Home:

1) After resting for a bit at Lobuche Highcamp, where you can enjoy lots of soup, juice and a delicious afternoon lunch, you will walk down to Lobuche basecamp, where you can have a healthy dinner and a good night’s sleep in the grassy meadow.

2) Next morning, after breakfast we will pack up and enjoy the beautiful easy walk down to Pangboche Village.

3) The following day, we retrace our steps back to Namche Bazaar and a lovely night in the Hilltop Lodge.

4) We will wake up to a beautiful Namche Good Morning Breakfast, and then walk down to Lukla, enjoying our last night in the Khumbu at the Namaste Lodge.

5) Early in the morning, we fly back to Kathmandu, and its good to be back at the Harati Hotel, where we can get cleaned up, change into our city clothing, and have a lovely welcome back dinner in a nice restaurant.

6) This last day in Kathmandu is held in reserve, as an “extra day” and is useful for shopping, sight seeing, celebrating with your new friends, visiting Sherpa’s homes, etcetera.

7) Its time to fly home. Thanks for joining our team and thanks for visiting Nepal. Please have a very good flight back and please do come again!
