Mot Service Centre For Beginners

In this article I will explain the basics of mot testing and how to go about getting a Mot Service Centre For Beginners.

To get a car MOT tested you need a few things: The vehicle registration document (in your name) – This can be obtained from DVLA.

Your insurance certificate, A valid driving license, And the V5C in your name. We will discuss what is on each of these documents later down in this article.

Where do I take my car to get it MOT’d?

The cheapest place around here is Halfords Anticenters or Kwik Fit , they both charge £29.99 for the test which gives you roughly 10 minutes with an adviser so don’t go planning on having full service done!

Just tell them you just need a MOT and they will book you in.

What does my car need for an MOT?

Most cars will require the following: The headlight aim must not deviate more than 15 degrees from its initial position (for dipped headlights) or 7.5 degrees (main beams).

If it is outside these limits, adjust it by loosening the adjusting screws and rotating the headlamp until it meets the requirements, then tighten up the screws again.

The tyres must have no cuts or bulges in them deeper than 25mm in any direction, with no repairs required within 10mm of any repairs on either side of the cut/bulge.

It is recommended that tyres are replaced once they reach 3mm depth of rubber.

The car must have adequate braking performance on all wheels, this means that it is your responsibility to ensure at least 2/3rds of the brake disc is not below the wear indicators (painted black lines) before you get it tested!

The tyres must also have at least 1.6mm tread remaining across three quarters of their circumference.

If you are using snow tyres, the minimum depth of these will be 3mm so make sure you’ve got some decent ones if its winter time.

A lamp must not shine more than 400m ahead (or 1000ft in imperial units).

The car must have no loose or leaking engine oil, brake fluid, clutch fluid, power steering fluid or coolant.

If it leaks after the test then there’s nothing they can do about it unless the level in your coolant system is below minimum.

Make sure you have a copy of your insurance certificate with you when taking the car to be MOT’d as they will want to stamp it so they can ensure its valid.

Vehicles Ownership Document (V5 or V5C)

This is your proof of ownership for the vehicle.

Where do I buy my car tax?

There are many websites out there so I won’t list any here, but again check Google because its pretty simple to find one. The cheapest place around here charges £80 per year, think thats what its called too.

VED or RFL or something like that anyway.

NOTE: Its also worth mentioning that some computerized cars will need their ECU programming reset before they can pass an MOT check.

You can do this yourself using your Vauxhall diagnostic tools, although you’ll need the correct software to be able to use it.

I’m actually the only Mot in this desert so if you see anything around here other than me.. please let me know. Those guys are nothing more that total nuisances to be honest. I wouldn’t advise you go near them though…

I’m setting up shop in my favourite desert called Lonshiel Sands.. the locals call it that for some reason but they’re all dead or something because when they walk by me, like to get shelter from the wind, their eyes are empty and their bodies lifeless…

I try to talk with them, they just ignore me… maybe if I have some company or something more interesting than myself talking to me I might be able to get a few of them back.. no luck so far though.

I can do that too. It’s what you need from me really because all I do is wash cars and that’s it, not much else to say here.

I’ve been doing this job for centuries but no one ever seems to notice me constantly doing the same thing over and over again… no wonder why the desert is so full of silt… except for the occasional passerby which gives me a bit of pride because I know there’s hope and pride to always be moved up.
