5G or the 5th Generation of Wireless Technology ensures better speed and low latency than the 4g network. India aims to implement the 5G wireless technology by the end of 2021. Various developed and developing countries, such as the USA and China, have begun rolling out 5G to the masses. In addition, South Korea registered as the primary nation to introduce a large-scale 5G network.

While many countries like South Korea, the United States, and China have already adapted to the 5g technology. 5g deployment in India is still lagging. 

Jio declared its plans in December 2020 to introduce a 5G network by late 2021. The trials are still being going on. The Indian authorities expect the launch of the 5G services by the beginning of 2022. Companies have been going through bumpy roads for a 5g network to roll out. In addition, the headlines stated that telecom networks received six months extension (till May 2022) for the 5G trials. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) approved Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea. Thus, the exact rollout date has become a mystery for the entire country. 

The evolution of Smart farming with India 5G

Smart farming is forecast to develop a new era with advanced 5G technology methods. 5G technology can empower farmers to improve farming methods with ease and efficiency.

There has not yet been a thorough investigation of the effects of this new technology on agriculture. However, farmers can expect advantages like faster communication, easy data transfer, learning, and cost-efficiency. 5G network is forecast to enable data speed of up to 10 Gbps. It is 100 times faster than the current 4G. In addition, the transfer of direct information between 5G-enabled equipment would be easy. It would eliminate the requirement for human intervention and enhance the speed and efficiency of agricultural processes. In addition, it would lessen the need for agri-inputs, workforce, and other resources. Thus, farmers can dedicate their efforts to areas that need human consideration, like planning sales and marketing, among others. 

India’s agricultural sector is forecast to gain traction with the rapid technological transformations projected in the future. A report by the UN suggests that 5G and the Internet of Things (IoT) can help the agriculture industry expand food production worldwide by 70 percent by 2050. Such advancements could help cater to the demand of the rapidly growing global population. 

The present scenario demands advancements to fulfill the requirements of the ever-growing population. Moreover, the demand for 5G would surely increase in the coming years.  Due to its advantages and power to transform the entire scenario. 

Several Indian villages in Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi have made headlines regarding thick smog originating from burning crop residues. At the same time, Taraori, a village in Haryana, followed climate-smart agriculture (CSA) practices and technology that changed the entire outlook of crop management techniques. These technologies enhance productivity and are forecast to improve the climate. Farmers in the village can easily connect to ‘climate smart’ agro advisories through their mobile phones. They can also access information regarding weather forecasts and recommended actions. In addition, information pertaining to using pests, seed varieties, and conservation agriculture techniques. However, to fulfill all these aims, it is mandatory to establish a comprehensive rural broadband network. The network must share real-time information with farmers and rural institutions to develop adopting smart farming in India.

In the underdeveloped areas of Andhra Pradesh, Sweden’s Ericsson techies employ high-end sensors to trace the course of the river Godavari. The water is then optimally distributed for agricultural activities. It also helps minimize the chances of floods. 

Finland’s Nokia is setting up an R&D facility in Bengaluru to introduce innovative new-age services, including the Internet of Things (IoT). In addition, it would help launch beneficial applications, majorly for agriculture, transportation, and healthcare. The advent of 5G India would boost the effectiveness and efficiency of the work. 

Vodafone India merged with Idea Cellular to introduce India’s largest phone provider. The company claimed that it has already implemented 5G concepts in its 4G networks by deploying technology. In addition, it increases a base station’s capacity by seven times. Such collaboration and strategies may boost the 5G rollout shortly. 

5G in Healthcare

Aside from agriculture, healthcare is forecast to witness significant growth and evolution by the arrival of 5G. For example, doctors and surgeons can effectively perform remote examinations. In addition, the trending use of machines and robots in operations may surge with the launch of India 5G. Critical healthcare services require stable connections to examine patients and get data without any delay. While there are plenty of factors to be hopeful about, the delayed adoption of 4G in India has produced skepticism regarding 5G.

Easy data access is another requirement that the healthcare industry needs. The shortage of electronic medical records obstructs medical delivery. 5G would enable more reliable access to predictive algorithms. As a result, it can rank patient data for emergency purposes with greater accuracy and ease.

5G and Telemedicine

The advent of 5G with telemedicine, the Internet of Things (IoT), and new healthcare services would enhance healthcare facilities all over the nation. Digitalization has created many possibilities. By incorporating electronic communication into medical treatment, faster connection rates are already altering the outlook of doctor-patient relationships. The launch of 5G will bring new opportunities for digital networking. For instance, the national emergency that recently terrified the people worldwide. During the COVID-19 pandemic, many patients preferred connecting to the doctors through mobile phones and other devices. 

The Growth of 5G

Technological advancements have always been favorable for industries. The 5G rollout would also create a pool of possibilities for innovative launches. According to the report by Astute Analytica, the India 5G market is forecast to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 90% during the forecast period from 2021-2027.
