Which board is the best for you child- CBSE or ICSE?
Choosing the right board for your child finding the right school itself is a daunting task. But an important feature that we need to look into is what curriculum is the school teaching. CBSE stand for Central board of secondary education whereas ICSE is Indian Certificate of Secondary Education. These both are different from each other. Some schools teach both these curriculum’s whereas some follow only one. One of the major differences between these two boards is their process of admission and its syllabus. They also have other differences, so let’s have a look at what is the difference between CBSE and ICSE.
Difference
- The most preferred board in India is surely CBSE. It is available for students at primary, secondary and senior secondary levels. CBSE conducts two exams at a higher scale. One of them is for 10th standard while the other is for 12th standard.
- ICSE on the other hand is a less preferred board in a country like India. ICSE exams are conducted by another board. They also have 2 main exams, for classes 10 and 12.
- The next difference is of medium of instructions. CBSE has English and Hindi medium as a mode of instruction whereas ICSE only has English as a medium of instruction.
- Affiliation of the boards is also a point of difference between the two. A student might have not studied in CBSE affiliated school but can still opt to give CBSE exams. This is not the case with ICSE board. It is mandatory for a student to study ICSE affiliated school to give the exam of the same.
- CBSE and ICSE are both recognized in India. But it is safe to say that if you have studied in CBSE board you tend to have an extra point. The major difference is that CBSE has more of theoretical concepts and knowledge. You will surely learn what concepts to apply. But knowing how to apply the concepts is taught by ICSE. They are more of practical knowledge. It teaches you how to be practical and how applying concepts work.
Comparisons between the two boards
CBSE is more of theoretical knowledge as mentioned earlier. This board is considered to be easy. CBSE is more common in India and students tend to have an advantage when they appear for entrance exams. Since all the entrance exams even for the best residential/boarding school in Andhra Pradesh are being conducted in India follow CBSE syllabus.
Talking about ICSE boards, this is comparatively tougher since it focuses more on practical doing and knowledge. It also aims at building analytical skills in students. This basically has an advantage for students who plan to give their TOFEL exams.
Admission process and procedure
This is another difference between these two boards. Admission in CBSE schools, it is important for the students to satisfy the age limit which is set by the regional government or the education board. For students who prefer CBSE from the start of their school have to undergo and pass a basic test. Whereas, if students are transferring from one school to the other they surely need a NOC from the principal of their previous school. Students transferring for class 10 and 12 must have background of studying in CBSE school only.
When it comes to ICSE affiliated schools, the students have to undergo a standard test. For admission in classes 10 and 12 the students don’t require a NOC but they need the approval of the council of the board which they get via the principal. The drawback of transfer is that if the students wants to admit in class 10 or 12, they will be admitted in one class lower i.e. Class 9 and 11.
Therefore these are the important and known differences between the two boards. It is up to the parents and the students to choose the right board for their future. These basic yet crucial points could really make or break your future. Therefore, this decision is very important and needs to be taken considering your child’s’ future needs and what your career path is. For students who plan to study abroad ICSE is the accurate board foe them whereas for students to plan to pursue further education in India CBSE is a better choice.
